Care & Maintenance Guide
Follow these expert tips to preserve the beauty and longevity of your rug
Regular Vacuuming
Shedding is natural in high-quality wool rugs and will decrease over time. Our rugs use long-fiber wool, which reduces shedding compared to shorter fibers. Vacuum regularly using suction only, avoid beater bars or bristles, which can pull fibers. Sprouting is normal and caused by pets, high heels, or vacuuming. Trim sprouts carefully to the height of the pile; never pull them out, which can cause bald spots.
Spot Cleaning & Professional Cleaning
For spills, act quickly. Remove solids gently using a spoon, dull knife, or carpet cleaning key. Dampen a cloth with water and blot, never rub or scrub. Gentle, color-fast soap can be used if needed. For tough stains or full cleaning, we recommend professional rug cleaners experienced with fine rugs. For gum, harden it with ice and scrape carefully with a butter knife.
Furniture & High-Traffic Care
Use rug protectors under heavy furniture to prevent flattening and maintain pile texture. Wool rugs are strong enough for daily use, but careful placement in high-traffic zones will help preserve their structure and longevity.
Durability & Unfolding
Wool rugs are exceptionally durable, making them ideal for entries, hallways, kitchens, and dining rooms. Lanolin, a naturally occurring oil in wool, naturally resists stains, helping your rug maintain its beauty over time. If your rug arrives folded, carefully lay it flat on a hard floor and allow it to relax. This helps the fibers settle evenly, prevents creases, and ensures the rug maintains its intended shape and texture.
Rug Pads
Place a quality rug pad underneath to prevent slipping, reduce wear, and provide extra cushioning.
Rotation & Sunlight Protection
Rotate your rug every six months to prevent uneven wear and fading in high-traffic areas. Minimize direct sunlight exposure to prevent color fading. Use curtains or UV-protective window film when possible.
